Common name: Maple Botanical name: Acer Categories: Trees Flowering: Summer (more valued for foliage than flowers) Care: Acers like very well drained soil. So many different varieties needing different conditions from Acer Rubrun, Acer Spaellii, which are hardy types, while some of the Japanese maples needs much more shelter. Margaret's Tip: Always plant in very well drained soil and never water the foliage of the Japanese maple as it can get scorched.
