Bacopa is probably one of our most popular basket plants, and little wonder, with the number of blooms – hundreds at a time – covering the plant in a blanket of colour. It thrives in partial shade to full sun, seems untroubled by pests and disease, and has tireless bloom strength.
If you are new to Bacopas, you will fall in love with their abundant gold-eyes bright white flowers. I suppose why the do so well in Cork is they love it cool and can flower happily without much sun!
Go for white:
The best white is 'Snowflake'. We have been growing this variety at Griffins for years and while new varieties have come and gone, we have tested 'Snowflake' and it consistently proves that it is the best performer in our climate.
A little history:
Bacopa is in the same family as the 'water hyssop', a spreading aquatic plant in the warmer climates and is used a lot in freshwater aquariums.
Maybe you would like to choose a blue variety instead? Large bright blue flowers cover the vigorous, cascading habit which spills over containers and baskets beautifully.
