  1. Too open and exposed - You’re not going to use it in our Irish Summer! Have it more enclosed, sheltered and cosy - that way you can use it much more often.
  2. Sun or Shade? You don’t want intense sun rays beating down on you when you are trying to relax. A little shade is always needed, especially where young children or older people use the patio. Pergolas, trees and parasols are all great for providing that little shaded area.
  3. Size: Most people make their patio too small. Place your furniture and other patio accessories, e.g. a barbecue or patio heater, in the space and plan with them in mind! It’s always nice to have space to put your feet up on a summers day.
  4. Shape of the Patio: Cost-wise, it is cheaper to stay with straight lines when designing the patio initially. Curves and other details can be created with beds and borders!
